MEDIA ADVISORY:
Coconut Grove Arts Festival® To Select Artists
To prepare for the 2007 Coconut Grove Arts Festival® presented by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida, jurors will evaluate approximately 1,350 applications by artists and select 336 to exhibit at the annual show.
Jurors will judge submissions from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday, October 12 at the new offices of the Arts Festival (3390 Mary Street, Suite 128 in the Mayfair Shops). Award winners from the prior year are automatically invited to exhibit, and slides of their work will be used to establish criteria for the next show.
Slides of artists’ work and displays will be evaluated by two 5-member panels of jurors. One panel will jury six categories of two-dimensional art (2D Mixed Media, Painting, Photography, Digital Art, Printmaking & Drawing and Watercolor). The other panel will jury seven categories of three-dimensional art (Claywork, Glass, Fiber, Jewelry & Metalwork, 3D Mixed Media, Sculpture and Wood).
Applications were received from 46 of the United States and seven countries abroad including Canada, Australia, Sweden, Germany and Bolivia. Almost 1,400 applications, including award winning artists from the 2006 Festival, were received. This year 619 artists applied to the Festival for the very first time. Florida is well represented in the jury pool as 20 percent of the applicants hail from the Sunshine State with 20 percent of those artists residing in Miami-Dade County.
Media are invited to observe the jury procedure and are asked to call 305-447-1224 to confirm their attendance.
